![]() There has been much discussion and consternation on this forum and other general non-QNAP forums about files not being accessible offline. Offline Folders has been a problem with QNAP for years. greater than 8.3) - it's just Windows Explorer that can't. It appears that software can save long file names (ie. To rename a folder, cut it from the NAS to the desktop, rename it, then paste it back to the NAS.ħ. ![]() For example, to create a folder "This is a new folder" on the NAS, create it on the PC desktop and copy it to the NAS. A long folder and/or file can be copied to the NAS without any issue but can't CREATE or EDIT one. However, as I write this, I have two Explorer windows open, one can create a long folder name and the other can't!!!Ħ. I currently have both "Advanced Folder Permissions" and "Windows ACL Support" enabled but it has not been working for any of the computers for several days. I now have no idea whether the settings were making any difference or whether it was coincidental.ĥ. At first I was changing settings and it would work (yeah) but 2 mins later it stopped working.change something else and it worked.then stopped. Most of the time it doesn't work but occasionally it does. It seems to have something to do with the new "Windows ACL Support" in Share Folders > Advanced Options.Ĥ. It only affects folders that are Available Offline.ģ. For example, add a new folder it is created as "New fldr" (8 chars).Ģ. It is restricting the name (folder and file) to comply with the old DOS 8.3 format. I logged the fault and got a reply with, There should be no 8 characters file limitation.I tested the offline folder on our office with firmware 3.7.3 but can’t duplicate the symptom."ġ. Qnap "Support" have been useless, which is typical lately. It can copy/update files that are missing on the target host and (optionally) it can delete files that have been deleted on the source, but are still present on the target. Finally, someone else with this problem! I upgraded my TS-439 Pro II to firmware 3.7.3 last week and immediately had this error. ![]() Https:// is not only a file transfer tool, but it can synchronize directories locally or over the network using ssh, stunnel or its own protocol(you'll have to run rsync in daemon mode on one of the hosts for that). From time to time, I'll swap this offsite hard drive with one of my newly backed up hard drives from home. I'll keep most of these external drives at home but always make sure that I have at least one hard drive stored at a different location. I then copy the contents of my main drive to a number of external hard drives (which also will be spinning disc and encrypted) using rsync.Looking for feedback on my backup process. The interface is command-line, which can look intimidating for some users. I can "easily" download your files from the cloud provider, or upload files, or many other features. Rclone is a bit like rsync, but aims to connect to any cloud storage provider, including Google Photos and Google Drive. Download Google Photos with all metadata at once (natively). For larger torrents, I think it's useful to use your file manager or something like rsync to manually copy the files, then move it in qBittorrent and afterwards you can remove the files yourself from the original location as to avoid your files from being lost? For me the 'move torrent' function in qBittorrent seems to be a bit quicker this way. Give rsync a try, it should handle UTF filenames just fine. Paperless-ngx: migrate to new host with UTF8 files?
